Drake Shabang: the challenge, the AI musical and the AI videos
What the Drake Shabang challenge is, where "Shabang: The Musical" came from, what Drake Shabang AI video tools actually make, and how to do the trend yourself.
"Drake Shabang" covers three different things that got mixed together on TikTok in 2026: a Drake song, an editing challenge built on it, and an AI-made Broadway parody of it. Here is what each one is, what the "Drake Shabang AI video" tools actually make, and how to do the original trend yourself.
Shabang is a Drake song
Shabang is track 6 on Drake's album Iceman, released May 15, 2026. It's produced by Maneesh, with ad-libs from Quavo and Takeoff. It went to US rhythmic radio in June and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to Wikipedia. The music video was shot in April at Downsview Park in Toronto. A controlled explosion during the shoot startled people nearby enough that a city councillor raised it.
The Drake Shabang challenge
The challenge took off on TikTok in late May and early June 2026. It's an editing trick timed to the producer tag at the very start of the song: on the beat, something suddenly appears in your hand. A drink, a snack, a phone, anything. Complex reported that thousands of people had joined in by mid-June.
Drake did it himself. In a clip from Turks and Caicos a drink appears in his hand. In another with Jessie Reyez, a shot glass appears in his hand while hers stays empty. Summer Walker, Idris Elba and Joe Jonas were among the famous names who posted their own, and coverage at the time credited the challenge with helping push the song into the top 10.
In South Africa, "the Shabang dance" means something else: a clip of DJ Maphorisa dancing, paired with the track, which he later recreated himself. If a Shabang video shows dancing rather than things appearing, it's probably this one.
Shabang: The Musical, the AI part
The AI side started later. On July 21, 2026, a creator posted an AI-generated, Broadway-style version of the song captioned as Shabang on Broadway. By August it had become the "Shabang: The Musical" or "Drake: The Musical" meme, with people posting mock audition tapes for the show. Know Your Meme lists one by @calderjamesmusic from August 4 at about 4.9 million views.
So when someone asks what the Drake Shabang AI thing is, they usually mean the musical. It's a parody of the song made with AI, not the hand challenge.
What Drake Shabang AI video generators make
A few AI tool sites now have "Drake Shabang AI video" pages. As of October 27, 2026, none of them makes the actual challenge, the object appearing in your hand on the beat:
- Media.io offers a face swap template: upload one photo and it puts your face on a performer in a Shabang party video.
- Dreamina generates an original house-party dance clip from a prompt, with your photo as an optional starting point, and asks you not to use a real artist's likeness or frames from the music video.
- Opus Pro makes beat-synced motion graphics and lyric videos, and notes that it doesn't include the song.
These are useful if you want a Shabang-flavored clip. If you want the challenge itself, you don't need AI at all.
How to do the Drake Shabang challenge without AI
The trick is a jump cut: two shots from exactly the same spot, cut right on the beat.
- Prop the phone up. Use a tripod or a stack of books, so the frame doesn't move between shots.
- Shot one: empty hand. Strike your pose with nothing in your hand, and hold it.
- Shot two: same pose, with the object. Stand where you were, hand in the same place, now holding the drink or snack.
- Cut on the beat. In CapCut or TikTok's editor, add the song, find the first hit and cut from shot one to shot two exactly there.
The closer you match your position, the cleaner the effect. A small step to the side gives it away.
This site and Shabang
We don't have a Shabang template: the challenge is an editing trick, not a scene you can be swapped into. What this site does make is two other Drake scene swaps from one photo. Burning Bridges AI is the chandelier party from another Iceman track, and POPSTAR AI is the mansion hallway walk from DJ Khaled's POPSTAR featuring Drake. The Drake AI video trend explainer covers how the Burning Bridges version spread.
This site is independent and isn't affiliated with Drake, OVO or his label, or with any of the tools named here.
